3 Autistic toddler quick tips Parenting tips for parents of Autistic Toddler’s.

Updated: Apr 5, 2023

  1. BE PATIENT with your autistic child....all children learn at a different pace and reach milestones in different manors. Don't be discouraged if you feel your child isn't at at the level of others. This is not a race and if it's looked at as a race its definitely a marathon not a sprint. Patience Patience & more Patience!

  2. Celebrate the little things with tons of praise. Example: When your autistic toddler points to an item and they typically would not point, celebrate this with highly enjoyable praise. Also provide praise they enjoy. Some children on the Spectrum may enjoy loud or intense verbal praise or high fives. They may enjoy tickles or being picked up. Attempt to praise your autistic toddler in a way that is enjoyable to them.

  3. TALK TALK TALK. Use words with your Autistic toddler as much as possible. The more you can talk to your v toddler the more they can pair these words with the items or functions they're associated with. EX: If your child points to or grabs a preferrrd item such a chips. Prior to giving them the item say " chips " "do you want chips" this is to pair the chips with the word. In the future the child may attempt to say "chips". This is only an example and you should use words while interacting with your toddler with autism even if you feel they're not responding.
