MAKE MEAL TIME FUN TIME. Pair meal time with items the child loves. Music, games, signing etc. Offer the Good for the bad..lol. Example 1st eat then u can listen to your song. You must start small and work your way up . 1 bite, or if very resistant just allowing it to touch the lips. Stay consistent with each meal and work your way up to more bites to full meals. Imagine if in week one you get 5 bites per meal time and increase that every week. After 4 weeks that’s 20 bites each meal.
Start small just placing the item on the lips is worth praising! Next attempt to have them lick the food then praise and reinforce. Work your way step by step . Each child is different so what step to begin with and how long depends on your child. Remember it’s a marathon not a sprint.
Think outside of the box and try foods that are not traditional in your family. They may eat something that you may not have considered so be very open minded.
Attempt to have meal time at a different place other than the dinner table. You may start in a fun area so it’s not looked at like lunch or dinner time to the child. In the past I’ve started to feed a child in the sensory room. First I’d let them play with something I’d easily be able to stop. Then offer a bite of food. (Very small bite). As soon as they bite it I’d immediately turn back on the fun. This is an example a parent of a child with Autism may begin to get their child to
