Pre plan using videos or YouTube of the place they are going if possible. If going to visit a out of town family member, FaceTime or video of their house could be helpful. Even better to actually go for a pre visit before the real thing. You can go for just 1 or 2 min to start to introduce the envy and by the time you really have to go they’ll be more familiar. This is also good for Dr. Visits, Birthday party , church events etc.
Have items they enjoy and distractors ready to go before facing and behavior issues or meltdowns.
Before going to the new place have a reward system and expectations understood as best as possible. Simply having a “first/then” such as first we’ll go to ….. then you can play with….. this can motivate your child to cooperate to earn their reward.
